I have discovered that I like John Scalzi's writing, so when I saw that he had done what he calls a 'reboot' of one of my favourite SF stories - Little Fuzzy by H. Beam Piper - I thought, well, okay, I can read this. Also, a couple of my friends said they enjoyed it.So, did I?Yes, for the most part...

I’ve never read the original story, and I am disappointed because I was under the impression that the two books were packaged together, based on the foreword and the reviews placed highest on the Audible website, but apparently they’ve now split the two books and must be purchased separately. Stil...

How this book ended was not how I expected. There is little to no action, the plot resolved in a courtroom of all places. I did like the book overall. But once again not enough to purchase. I love libraries. I started and finished this book not caring at all about the characters. I liked the "fu...

John Scalzi has just made it onto my all-time favorite authors list. He entertained me. He enlightened me. He educated me. I chuckled. I chortled. I teared up. And in the end, I cheered. in earlier posts, I shared a couple of excerpts: http://redthaws.booklikes.com/post/1005293/close-enc...

I really, really, want to like John Scalzi's fiction better than I do, but he kind of blows hot and cold for me. I haven't read any of his classics like "Old Man's War" and I need to try them but what I like so much in his non-fiction & blog/twitter writing (his sarcasm, his liberal politics, his g...

This book totally held up on re-read, but I forgot that it wasn't just happy fun-times. Parts of it are really sad :( Also, small quibble with the audiobook. Although Wil Wheaton generally does an excellent job, his voice for Papa Fuzzy was really distracting. I pictured it in my head very different...

When I previously tried to listen to a John Scalzi audiobook, I had to give up after about a half hour. Granted, it was a free preview chapter from his new book. I didn't feel bad about not enjoying something I got for free. This book I used credits on. I was not giving up. When I read a book no...

Really liked this reboot of the classic Little Fuzzy, though there was more John Grisham than Science Fiction. Solid plot carried the novel, which is good because the characters were fairly flat. May have read the original as a kid, definitely didn't read any of the many sequels.

Warning: I am not spoiler-tagging the whole review, but the quote at the bottom could be considered a slight spoiler, bearing in mind that this is a retelling of a 50-year-old sci-fi classic. So, I finally got around to reading my signed copy of John Scalzi's rewrite of Little Fuzzy. Go read that rev...

I admit I've never read any of Mr. Piper's works but now I've got a real hankering to do so. I loved this story. It had everything. Furries, exploitation, edge-of-the-seat legal drama, and one hell of a tinseltown ending. I was almost swearing to myself that I was reading a Heinlein novel that was u...
