Gaetano Cipolla was born in Sicily and emigrated to the US in 1955. He earned his Ph.D. at NYU in 1974. He taught Italian language and literature at a number of universities (NYU, Marymount, Lehman College). He has just retired from teaching after 31 years at St. John's University. He is President and Editor of Arba Sicula. Dr. Cipolla has translated numerous Sicilian poets into English. He has received numerous awards including the Telamone from Agrigento, the Pigna d'Argento and the Sicilians: Ambassadors to the World from the Region of Sicily. As principal editor of Legas, New York, he has published about 70 titles.
