A southern girl, Gail Cauble Gurley, was born in Salisbury, North Carolina. She is a retired state probation officer, married, and award winning best selling author. A movie,"Red Dirt Rising", was inspired by her book RED DIRT TRACKS: THE FORGOTTEN HEROES OF EARLY STOCKCAR RACING. She and husband Ed have one daughter, and three grandchildren. They have renovated the home built by her grandfather in 1905. It remained in the family until 2004 and they were able to procure it in 2011, bringing it back into the family which has loved it for generations.
