George Wallace is Writer in Residence at the Walt Whitman Birthplace, first poet laureate of Suffolk County NY, and an American poet 'of celebration and of witness.' A Syracuse University graduate (BA English, '71), he has studied poetry with WD Snodgrass and Donald Justice; and more recently with Marvin Bell, David St John and Dorianne Laux, at Pacific University in Forest Grove Oregon, where he obtained his MFA in 2008.An adjunct professor with the English Department at Pace University in Manhattan, he is editor of Poetrybay, co-editor of Great Weather For Media, author of twenty-five chapbooks, including Poppin Johnny (Three Rooms Press, NYC '10) and Burn My Heart in Wet Sand (Troubador Press, Leicester UK, '05).A foundational figure on the New York City poetry performance scene, Wallace was named a 'Next Generation Beat' by Lowell Celebrates Kerouac, and maintains an active international schedule of workshops, lecture presentations and poetry readings, particularly across the United States and in the UK. Recent appearances include the Woody Guthrie Festival, Steinbeck Center, Dylan Thomas Centre, the Beat Museum and the Gordon Parks Museum.
