Geraldine Evans is a British novelist. She turned indie in 2010 after many years and eighteen novels in the traditional publishing world, and thinks it's GREAT to have control of her life's work at last. Her working life is so varied that she was bound to become a writer, sooner or later! It includes stints in a psychiatric hospital, a public library, running their own vehicle repair workshop with her mechanic husband, an au pair, behind bars, in factories, for the legal world, the energy world and the insurance world as an office temp. She's helped out in the Constituency Office of her local Member of Parliament and looked after other people's dogs while their owners took a holiday. She's done it all, and then some. :)She's devoured mysteries and history for years. Agatha Christie, P D James, Ruth Rendell, Janet Evanovich, and countless others, she must have read thousands of them, but she still comes back for more. She loves historical fact and fiction, her favourite fictional author is Sharon Penman. One day she decided to write her own book. That first novel was a romance, called Land of Dreams, set in the Canadian Arctic. But she then switched to crime, writing her first mystery featuring DI Joe Rafferty, and from there a career grew. There are seventeen novels in the series so far. Her other interests include photography, getting God-like in the greenhouse, learning keyboards and painting amateur portraits of unwilling victims. She spent most of her life in London (UK), where she was born and brought up, the youngest of four children born to Irish parents (Mum-Dublin, Dad-Limerick), but moved to a market town in Norfolk (UK) in 2000, with her late husband. She is a full-time author and loves it! I read with interest because I LOVE British murder mysteries. I haven't picked up a police procedural in a long time. The dialogue is absolutely spot-on. The way that Rafferty is always stepping in mud, getting rain-soaked, or having his partner Llewellyn lose patience with his driving is so very re...

The detective team of Rafferty and Llewellyn is an entertaining English lineup that works because they brilliantly compliment and oppose each other. Mystery detective pairings often work on a push and pull system operating to either sway the balance or draw a reader towards a direction or clue. Ev...
