Man, the old style of writing for comics can get clunky. So, so clunky. There's more nuance nowadays: a little more trust of the audience, so not everything has to be said quite as plainly as it is. Still, I want to see what happens to that lady who went through Terrigenesis, but there was ...

Secret Teachings of a Comic Book Master: The Art of Alfredo Alcala I think the most important factor determining whether you will enjoy this book is your expectations. When I picked it up, I was more focused on the "Secret teachings" bit of the title and description than the "Art of Alfredo Alcala" ...

If I used one word to describe this book, it would be 'dated.' The other word I'd use was 'cheesy'. I don't think these stories have aged well at all. A flavour of Green Lantern stories originally published from 1968 to 1970, which sometimes shows. Fun but nothing spectacular.

Classic Spiderman from when he lost two important people in his life, Gwen Stacy and her father Captain Stacy. Two characters that meant a lot to spiderman and changed how his life ran. Interesting and thought-provoking.

This volume of Showcase Presents Green Lantern while featuring some great artwork from Gil Kane (including one story inked by the late, great Wally Wood), Dick Dillin and Mike Sekowsky, has some of the lamest sixties' stories. This was the low period in DC Comics (well, one of them, anyway) between ...

One of the better Marvel Masterworks volumes I've read, this book features the beginning of what would become the Hulk's second comic book series, beginning with Tales to Astonish #59. There is some great artwork in this volume, particularly the teams of Steve Ditko and George Bell, and Jack Kirby a...
