Gilda Ochoa is Professor of sociology and Chicana/o-Latina/o Studies at Pomona College where she writes and teaches on education, communities, and race/ethnicity. Her most recent book -- "Academic Profiling: Latinos, Asian Americans, and the Achievement Gap" has been recognized with awards by the Association for Asian American Studies, the American Sociological Association Section on Racial and Ethnic Minorities, and the Society for the Study of Social Problems Division of Racial and Ethnic Minorities. It was also named as one of 35 books All Educators of Black and Latina/o Students Must Read. Her other books include "Becoming Neighbors" (2004), "Learning from Latino Teachers" (2007), and "Latino LA" (2005, co-editor). She was born and raised in Southern California and received her BA from UC Irvine and PhD from UCLA.
