As a staunch modern-to-contemporary-ist, I've never had to read this book--or much Dickens at all, except Hard Times twice and equally nonplussed each time.But this book is, actually, delicious. And given its episodic nature, it's excellent commute reading.
Breaking it down, the story was more of a 3 for me, the writing and long-windedness a 2, and the wonderful characters (whether I liked/agreed with them or not) a 4.
