4.5 stars. There was something really odd about the first half of this book, something I can't quite place, and it's that something that lost this the half star. But this book was so good, especially the last few chapters, and I'm saddened that I don't have the next one readily available.
Joe Abercrombie just keeps getting better. While this tale differs in that the story is told through the point of view of a single protagonist, the witty dialogue, steamrolling conflict, plot twists, colorful characters, and surprises abound in the marvelous page turner.
I got sidetracked from my plan to review one trad-pubbed book a month, didn't I? Now here it is, September. Great characters and world building really highlight the story. A nice twist surprise to finish the story ...

It's been a long, long time since I read something so packed with betrayal, violence, and dramatic plot twists which is also written by someone who draws vivid characters, creates a whole new mythology and has an ear for language and ...
Joe Abercrombie's recently begun YA series. There really isn't much to say about this. It's a by the numbers YA fantasy novel and holds little of the grimness of Abercrombie's First Law series (even though I've seen claims to the contrary). One thing that did stood out to me was the way the prot...
