I had heard a lot of good things about Kate Beaton's Hark! A Vagrant and since the premise of it (historical parody + comics) sounded intriguing I naturally thought it would be a winner for me. Well, I can't in all honesty say that it was a winner in my books. There were certainly some comics that I...

I've seen a few of these cartoons from time to time, the stupid Watson one in particular has entertained me several times before. However, many of these were unknown or barely known to me and I greatly enjoyed turning the page to see what it had in store for me next. A few that stand out in my me...

Kate Beaton has created a collection of cartoons that includes an index. The index alone is worth an extra star. She has a way of drawing eyes that are amazingly expressive considering they are just sideways ovals with a black dot. Beaton has filled a niche that no one realized needed filling. T...

I spent half this cartoon collection laughing and the other half feeling like a complete idiot. Beaton is a history/lit heavyweight who can't stop riffing on her obsessions. Yes, plenty of her humor shot straight over my head; but I would adore her for the comic about *all three* Brontë sisters even...

I could go overboard and post dozens of examples of Beaton's brand of literary and historical humor, but I'll contain myself. Instead, I'll share only the one that made a permanent fan of me:[Awesome Comic Strip] I love the strip, and it was a lot of fun to be able to physically have the strips in f...

Quite a few chuckle-worthy cartoons here. Especially liked the "story behind the book cover" bits, and who doesn't enjoy humor about the Canadians?

The second collection of webcomics (of three) that I've had around for the last little while. This one, for some reason, I've never really followed online. It doesn't make a lot of sense, given that I completely enjoy her comics, and she's mostly writing about history and literature, and saying hila...

Hark!, a Vagrant collects strips from Kate Beaton's webcomic of the same name. Most of her strips are historical or literary in nature. And often vulgar, and far more often very funny. (My favorites: the Javert series.) It's a very nice edition, actually, a good hardcover with a pretty cool cover. I...

Still great, but I miss some of the stuff she was doing in the earlier days (MS Paint, the fat pony, visits to her younger self).
