Gave it three or four chapters, and despite some characters that sorta seemed like they might become interesting, there just wasn't anything there that really hooked me and drew me in. It started to feel like a slog, and there's just too many other books out there to get to. DNF.

I honestly didn't expect to enjoy this half as much as I did. The voice of Scout is perfect and her observations of the people around town are astute and frequently witty. At the centre of the story is the unforgivable injustice against Tom Robinson and the ability of white people on the jury and co...

I liked this novel more than I liked To Kill a Mockingbird which is supposed to be the first book in this series. I think that’s because I understood the characters more and their actions and attitudes seemed to fit them. I read this book for book club, and listening to the discussions surrounding t...

(Original review, 2004-08-27)There was a programme on the radio a few years ago which took a harsher view of the book. To summarise, Atticus Finch tried to win his case by substituting one prejudice (racism) with another (low-class women are loose and predatory). Beneath the charm, nostalgia and so ...

Yes, I've finally read it. I'd managed to not read TKAM for decades because there was never a copy at hand and frankly, I was never interested enough to make any effort to acquire one. Until, as some of you know, I was at a library book sale last year and made an impulsive grab of a copy for $1, w...

I have one good thing to say about this: it's not, technically, canon. No stars because I don't know how to rate a ghost book, one that should not have been.

Jean Louise Finch macht einige Tage Urlaub in ihrer Heimatstadt Maycomb.

How does one review a classic when so many people have reviewed it before? This was a beautiful book, even though the unfairness depicted in it hurts. My only complaint is that there was one disturbing thing that was not addressed. In the trial scene, Tom Robinson said that Mayella Ewell said she'...

Turkeys want candy too! At least the turkey in this story does, and he will dress as just about anything to trick others into giving him sweet treats.I would use this story in my classroom to transition from Halloween to Thanksgiving and have my students create their own costume for their turkey sh...
