Sun's scholarly interests include freedom of expression, digital censorship, and communication/telecommunications policy. Sun was interviewed by the Chronicle of Higher Education about her book, internationally the first work on Internet cafes (http://chronicle.com/blogs/college20/in-chinas-internet-cafes-content-blocking-is-largely-effective/26872).
