Well, that was not what I had expected. I didn’t expect all the sexual and passionate aspects of this novel. I did enjoy this novel though and I thought the historical elements and the characters in the novel complimented each other. All the while I was reading this novel, I kept thinking “Vincent P...

Bought during Audible's $2.99 sale (10/13/17)! . It's more now, sorry about that. A rich guy offers to pay a group of people to stay a few nights in a haunted house to prove there is life after death. All previous attempts to do such a stupid thing at this particular house have ended very badly fo...

Great story. Only thing keeping it from 5 stars is the sexist and homophobic undertones.

I was not frightened by Hell House. To instill horror, the novel depends largely on the transgression of sexual mores. Those mores seem quite outdated to this reader in 2016. There are already many excellent reviews that make the same point, so I'll say no more on that topic.I gave Hell House two...

Sometimes it's nice to just read a really good horror book. I think besides a couple of flow problems and the story taking a while to get going, there is a reason why this one is a classic.Taking place in 1970, a man named William Deutsch wants to investigate the possibility of life after death. He...

Originally published in 1971, there's probably nothing new that I can say about this one. Instead, I want to point out that I absolutely love how Matheson accomplishes so much with so little. For example, take the following sentence, "There was something in there, without a doubt, something terribly...

So much has already been said about this book so I'm not going to beat it to death but I thought it was a fantastic haunted house story. I can definitely understand why it garnered so much attention. I even really liked the ending which isn't always the case for me in this genre. It was thoroughly s...

I've tried to read Hell House numerous times. The writing seemed a little too... simplistic, I guess would be the word, for my tastes. It's also, at times, annoyingly repetitive, and had my buddy Thomas Strömquist (sorry I still haven't figured out how to link to other people on this site) hadn't ac...

It's 4:40am when I got up to turn on my laptop to write this review. I have been awake for the last 3 hours listening to the end of this audiobook. Unable to move from my darkened room. Tossing and turning. Grimacing into the darkness. Stephen King has stated this is one of the scariest books he's e...

A dying millionaire enlists the help of scientist and two psychics to find out if there is life after death. He pays the three people to go into Hell House and see if there is more than endless nothing when we die. Tension is very high between the people that go into the house. There is a scientist ...
