Henry Gee is a longtime editor at the science journal 'Nature'. His nonfiction includes THE ACCIDENTAL SPECIES, DEEP TIME, JACOB'S LADDER and THE SCIENCE OF MIDDLE-EARTH; his fiction includes THE SIGIL trilogy, BY THE SEA and HUNTING UNICORNS. His book A FIELD GUIDE TO DINOSAURS was illustrated by stellar dino-artist Luis V. Rey. His next book ACROSS THE BRIDGE: UNDERSTANDING VERTEBRATE ORIGINS will be published in Spring 2018 from the University of Chicago Press. He lives in Cromer, Norfolk, England, with his family and numerous pets.

This is a beautifully written book about the spotty nature of the fossil record, evolution in general and human evolution specifically. Informative and entertaining.

I found it interesting and readable, but he seemed to repeat himself a lot.
