DNF I listened to a couple of chapters and wasn't interested. The annoying narrator did not help. There is no way I could listen to hours of this.

At the time I read this book I was very ignorant about the politics of race in the USA, and reading it introduced me to my whiteness; it thoroughly decentred me and I never thought of myself as the universal again. Subsequently I tried to read some of Wolfe's work on politics and architecture and I ...

I hope Tom Wolfe has gotten so laid because of this book. I hope women have put down this book, thrown on some lingerie, and walked over to his apartment – unless Wolfe is gay, in which case, I hope men have done the lingerie thing. I hope women (or men) invented a time machine to travel back in t...

this is a great work! I used to live in a Park Avenue apartment like Sherman McCoy and I can report, this is exactly how it is. when you're sitting up there in your aerie's nest up in the clouds and all those filthy city people are demonstrating 50 stories below, believe me nothing feels better than...

When I think of all the books I've ever read, those that stand out, that resonated enough to be remembered as having a special voice, or delivering a potent punch, deserve 5 stars. This was one of those. If I read it today, I might be more critical, but it fascinated me back then. When I've thought ...

I found it very hard to get into the story, for there were a lot of characters to know and at first they didn’t interact with each other. But once all these people got together the story became very interesting and grabbed me. The book is really worth a read.

One of my high school English teachers insisted I read this as I was an aspiring journalist at the time. I suppose I could say it helped form my sense of ethics and storytelling, and my disdain for stories that clearly fit some meme rather than reporting the complete facts. It was also a pretty good...

I really wanted to like this book. I started out that way. The writing style was unique, the setting one I've always been interested in and I like New York City. But I didn't care one whit for any character in this book. By the time they get to the big dinner party halfway through, I detested the ...
