Holidays on Ice - David Sedaris I was looking for something to listen during the Holidays and this was recommended to me. I tried, I really did but half way in and more than merry this was compendium of bitterness and bad jokes. I know it supposed to be "dark" humor, and believe me, I can appreci...

Veronica needed some “Santaland Diaries” and then I was supposed to take the book back to the library, but Santaland sounded really appealing so I read the whole thing again. This is my favorite Sedaris. “Six to Eight Black Men” is battling “Santaland” for favorite xmas anecdote, and “Jesus Shaves” ...

It is hard to pick one set of stars for a book that is full of different essays. I would give some of the essays 4 stars, others 3, and maybe even some 2s. If I look at the book as a whole, I liked it. There are a few stories that stick out -- like Santaland Diaries (about Sedaris' stint as an Elf a...

Santaland Dairies and Monster Mash are the only two stories that grab me. Maybe I'm missing something or this was not my type of humor.

I read this because I saw the SantaLand Diaries as a play last weekend & really enjoyed it. To be fair, I think Sedaris is better heard/seen than read. His radio essays & plays I've seen have been enjoyable & entertaining. His writing... eh... not so much. I liked the SantaLand Diaries section of th...

This audiobook always kicks off the Christmas season for me. I adore Sedaris' essays about his family and life - 'Dinah the Christmas Whore' and 'Six to Eight Black Men' are my favorites - but I'm not a huge fan of the fictional works in this book. However, since most of stories are read by Sedaris...
