Aw, it's supercute. Echoes of Mark Twain- there's the surface jokes, and then underneath there's this wry, straight-faced but deeply humorous narrative voice that gives it its real worth. That makes it sound much more of a big deal than it is. It's a sweet children's book from the '40s.
