4.0 Houses of Stone by Barbara Michaels
Sometimes it's easy to forget how brilliant, capable and well-educated Barbara Michaels, aka Elizabeth Peters, aka Barbara Mertz was. My least favorite Barbara Michaels book ever. The mystery wasn't really a mystery, the "paranormal" elements were tacked on, and the romance was only thrown in there as a sop. Yikes.
