I do get why this book on "How the Irish Saved Civilization" was a bestseller. Not only is it the perfect gift for St Patrick's Day, it is entertaining and readable. Interesting, but not as exciting as most Irish tales. It amazed me that Romes influence over Ireland despite there being a break in communication between the two, at one point for nearly 150 years.

Sure, the title grossly overstates the case, but this is a very readable, highly entertaining account of one little aspect of the Middle Ages.
