Despised for his weakness and regarded by his family as little more than a stammering fool, the nobleman Claudius quietly survives the intrigues, bloody purges and mounting cruelty of the imperial Roman dynasties. In "I, Claudius", he watches from the sidelines to record the reigns of its emperors: from the wise Augustus and his villainous wife Livia to the sadistic Tiberius and the insane excesses of Caligula. Written in the form of Claudius' autobiography, this is the first part of Robert Graves' brilliant account of the madness and debauchery of ancient Rome, and stands as one of the most celebrated, gripping historical novels ever written.

Updated Review - Reheard after listening to Holland's book about the family. So fun.A very good dramatization. If you are a fan of the series, this does not detract from it. It is also interesting to listen to Derek Jacobi as Augustus. It makes a nice bookend

Also, it rubbed me the wrong way by spending what felt like the majority of those first 50 pages slam...

5.0 Robert Graves - I, Claudius
Game of Thrones is crap. There are very few positive things you can say about it. Martin’s prose is clunky and the story goes nowhere. Any little character development that he had gets lost. There is something engrossing in a huge drama of constant betrayals, violence, sex and powerful people. The p...

4.0 Audiobook Review: I, Claudius by Robert Graves
I, Claudius - Robert Graves This was my first experience with an audiobook, and I enjoyed it very much! I liked the fact that the various characters were voiced by a variety of actors. It felt like listening to a play instead of hearing a narrator read a book aloud. Can't wait to get my hands on ...
