I usually avoid family saga books because they're oftenA. 1000 pages longB. PlotlessC. Insufferably boringD. All of the aboveBecause of my bias against these books, this one sat on my shelf for nearly a year before I picked it up. I shouldn't have waited so long to read it. I actually liked it a lot...

I read this book for the first time in Grade 12, when I was just getting into reading "adult" books. After reading, and loving, The Poisonwood Bible, I chose this book because it was another Oprah Book Club selection. I had to read it in two weeks because it was in high demand on the library, and ...

I loved this book. It is disturbing and hard to get into, but I've bought it as a present to a few very close friends who love reading. It is a very scary account of how childhood trauma and mental illness affects everyone in a family. Highly recommended.

Haunting, chilling. Years later the premise of this book still breaks my heart.
