I am loving this series. Book 2, 'The Subtle Knife' follows Lyra and her new friend, Will, as they attempt to move between worlds, find lost loved ones, discover the meaning of 'dust' and escape from the clutches of evil. Prepare for a lot of action and adventure. 'The Subtle knife' is just as enjoy...

Pastworld is set in a fictional amusement park of the same name. It's a completely immersive, completely authentic recreation of Victorian London. In London. The entire city has been given over to this Colonial Williamsburg on steroids, complete with period authentic laws and police procedures. The ...

This is so not happening. This book reminds me of Incarceron, in that it has a great concept and absolutely no soul to speak of.

Pastworld is amazing. A steampunk world set in a dystopian future? My kind of novel! You see Pastworld from many POV's, from Eve, who's spent her whole life in Pastworld to Cabel, who is visiting with his Father. The settings are rich, full of life and easy to imagine. Indeed, I feel like I've just ...

The reviews are disappointing for what I imagine is an excellent premise, reminiscent of Westword, one of my favorite Saturday night movies from years ago. I'm looking forward to finding out for myself.

The concept was interesting, with there being an enormous theme park that basically functioned as a world unto itself, with its allure to a jaded public who wished to escape to a different time, as well as its appeal to sickos which was probably unavoidable given how much the corporation catered to ...

Review in 75 words or less: Beautiful and elaborate world. The novel has interesting characters; however, the world that Beck has created is sadly more memorable than many of the novel's main characters. In addition, as a reader, I was frustrated in that the main action does not occur until the last...

Inventive, compelling, and well-done. Still, the second time through was much less satisfying than the initial reading. I am in sympathy with the message, the characters are engaging but ultimately it didn't hold up for me.
