Ian Buchanan was born in the small country town of Mt Barker in the South West of Western Australia, but grew up in Perth. He completed his BA and PhD in English and Comparative Literature at Murdoch University. He has since then worked at universities in Perth, Hobart, Melbourne and Cardiff. His present position is Director of the Institute for Social Transformation Research at the University of Wollongong (Australia). He founded the journal Deleuze Studies and convened the first Deleuze Camp in 2007.
