Dr. Ian Corbett is the Coordinator of the Audio Engineering Program, and Professor of Audio Engineering at Kansas City Kansas Community College. He also owns and operates "off-beat-open-hats - recording and sound reinforcement", specializing in servicing the needs of classical, jazz, and light rock ensembles in the Kansas City area. He has engineered live sound for many headline and opening acts, including Bill Cosby, BB King, the Count Basie Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Nanci Griffiths, Buddy Guy, The Kansas City Jazz Orchestra, The Kings Singers, Randy Newman, Jane Monheit, Clark Terry, Nanci Wilson to name but a few, and regular local clients have included orchestras, jazz big bands, small jazz ensembles, choirs and chamber ensembles - both professional and amateur. He is familiar with working with not-for-profit organizations, to tight budgets, in acoustically challenging venues, and in "real world" situations that many engineers might find themselves in!Since 2004 he has been an active member of the Audio Engineering Society's Education Committee, and has mentored, presented, and served on panels at local, regional, national, and international AES events, and been an invited presenter at many other audio events in the USA, Europe and Central America, and he is a regular guest, critiquing student recordings at AES events. Ian is also a member of the Producers & Engineers Wing of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, and has authored articles for Sound On Sound ("The Worlds Best Recording Technology Magazine"). Complimenting his audio skills, Ian is also a professional jazz, soul, and funk saxophone player, and can frequently be found performing in many of Kansas City's jazz clubs and restaurants. His horn arrangements and performances can be heard on several releases on the Viva and Hed Kandi labels, as well as on releases by local Kansas City artists. Ian holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in music composition from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
