Ian Wilson (1966-) is a Canadian citizen, permanently residing in Aizuwakamatsu, Fukushima, Japan. He is a professor in the Center for Language Research (CLR) at the University of Aizu, Japan's first university dedicated to computer science and computer engineering. He was awarded a PhD in Linguistics from the University of British Columbia and his research focuses on articulatory phonetics. In particular, he uses ultrasound (among other methods) to view and record the tongue's movements during speech.In 2009 and 2010, he appeared weekly on a Japanese (NHK) television program called (roughly translated) "3-month Topics in English Conversation - Speak and Understand!
