So, I didn't actually hate it. Let me begin with a gif, though. That's Drusilla, from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. And, sadly, that is what I pictured every single time I read the name of the main character. It was . . . distracting. Now that I've gotten that out of my system, I shall talk ab...

I don't even know how to start this review. I really enjoyed the other Victoria Holt book I read, Mistress of Mellyn, but this one, no. A thousand times no. There was sexism, classicism, racism, I am sure I am forgetting some -ism. And yes, I do get that the setting that this book takes place in is...
SusannaG - Confessions of a Crazy Cat Lady
The India Fan, one of Victoria Holt's novels, is certainly the "gothic" she's famous for - it is the tale of Drusilla Dantry, the rector's daughter, and how her life, from the age of two, has been entwined with that of the local gentry family, the Fannings. This is my favorite Victoria Holt book. Drusilla is a wonderful character, in spite of her lack of description of her feelings. After i read this book i became really interested in India and its old customs. And of Fabian... how to describe him? He is my favorite male character of period books (even...

Just got the re-issued version and the cover is absolutely stunning! I just LOVE Victoria Holt and so glad that her books are being re-issued. I read this book a while ago, back in 2005. Maybe I will re-read. This rating is from my first reading... nothing less than a 5 star for her. :)

I don't remember much about this book except that I did a book report on this book when I was fourteen. I made this book seem quite smutty to my classmates and thus fascinating until my teacher made me stop. I really played up the Lavinia character to be a tart. Another kid made the Lord of the Ring...
