This is the Kindle version of the much debated Queen & Freddie Mercury book INNUENDOES. When this book was first released it caused many rows and debates, and because of it’s highly controversial nature I advise that you take everything at face value. Please note that Queen are fully aware of this book. Another thing that should be noted is although this book appears to run parallel with the “We Will Rock You” show, this book was however written and released before the show ever came to light.
Basic Intro:
Flamboyant, mad, outrageous, camp - these are just some of the words that have been used to explain Freddie Mercury - formerly the lead singer of one of the world's greatest Rock Bands Queen. Freddie was often asked about his personal life, and although occasionally he would admit to sexual abuse via teachers and possibly even older pupils at the Boarding school that he attended, he would prefer instead to try to laugh off the questions by going into the act of the Jester. This is otherwise known as the Mask - but underneath that mask, was a very different person. Freddie suffered from bad publicity throughout his entire career, right up until the day he died and from then on after. One of the few things that he said before he died; was that at least they couldn't get at him anymore. In later life before he died, his staff would check every newspaper for articles about him, because they knew how much this type of publicity upset him. There were many things about Freddie that stayed secret right throughout his life and which are only today coming to light, with the publication of books as written by some of his closest friends who he deemed to be a part of his circle or ring. But even then, many of these books contain different versions of Freddie's life story.
The simple reason for this is that there were many sides to Freddie's personality. For instance on stage Merc was bold and chatty with the audience - but then if you were to take any of those people and confront him with them, he would be quiet and almost shy. But then if you were to look at his personal home life, he could be bossy and arrogant, almost treating the people around him as though they were merely servants there to do his bidding. He would throw tantrums at the slightest little thing and throw things against walls and sometimes even threw things at people. Mind you this side of Freddie, he would most definitely deny.
Freddie considered this to be the "Hidden Monster". He openly admitted that he was many different people or rather that he had many different approaches towards people. This depended not only on who he was confronted with, but also where this meeting took place. For instance, a personal interview, a concert, a boyfriend, a girlfriend, his parents, Mary Austin, the group Queen, in the studio, or even walking down the street. So as you can imagine even if all of those different people were to write a book about him, none of them would ever tell the complete story. And this fact alone has prevented many writers from ever writing an accurate account of Freddie's life story and as stated this in the main is due to the fact that many parts of Freddie's life remained uncovered up to now. But really in truth it's just a matter of sewing all the pieces together. So instead of the usual "Pop Bumf", this book is aimed at highlighting the things about Freddie that you didn't know, as well as filling in the missing pieces about the things that you already knew about him - In other words what made him tick. But first we must start from the beginning...
