I'm really of two minds about this book - the info about Shakespeare and all of the possible candidates for the "Who was Shakespeare?" sweepstakes was absolutely fascinating, and I really appreciated the author's note at the end, which outlines which parts are fact, which are somewhat fictionalized ...

This book deserved exactly two stars. The story itself, is very intriguing, especially if you like "Da Vinci Code-like" mysteries or Shakespearean history. It was the flat static characters that ruined the story for me. Without interesting characters, I simply cannot get involved in a book.

What I liked:Firstly and foremostly I loved the fact that Jennifer Lee Carrell really knew what she was writing about. She is not one of these authors which make factual mistakes, leading their characters on a wild-goose chase to places which don't exist. When she describes a library or a cave you ...

Too much of Stratfordian to read this without gagging. It's neat, but gosh darn predictable and in some sense like too many other things. Not much you have to suspend too much disbelief. Unrated because Carrell can actually write in terms of sentence and vibe.

Muddying the waters of the search, there's a murdere...

This book was released hot on the heals of The DaVinci Code. I have read a few Dan Brown novels and have also started in on Steve Berry's works, and usually find their ancient mystery thrillers quite entertaining. Carrell's book was a slightly different story.Carrell is a literary history scholar, s...

I give up on this one. I couldn't keep all of the historical characters atraight. I read one review that compared this to Katherine Neville's THe Eight. Um, not even close! I felt nothing for the characters, could not have cared less if they found anything they were seeking. The heroine has som...
