„The Stepford Wives“ von Ira Levin erschien 1972. Damit fiel die Veröffentlichung zufällig (?) in das Jahr, in dem das Equal Rights Amendment vom US-Senat angenommen wurde. Dieser Verfassungszusatz sollte die Gleichstellung der Geschlechter in den USA vorantreiben und Frauen weitreichende Rechte zus...

This actually had a plot twist - that was probably pretty obvious because I guessed it and I suck at guessing plot twists - and I found myself invested in the characters. Not a favorite, but I dug this a lot more than the previous Darkness story.

I have never watched the Mia Farrow movie adaption of this book, but I know that is a classic horror movie. Because of that I´m surprised that this book left me with lukewarm feelings. My main issue with this book was that the strong and intense second part of the novel was bogged down by the lame...

I’ve always had a soft spot for Ira Levin and saw this book on a list when I was looking for something to fill the terror in a small town square. I haven’t seen the film and came to it as unspoilt as is possible with such an iconic story. The story follows Joanna, who’s just moved to Stepford with...

All they eat in this book is milk and meat and starch.Just as long as it needs to be, with a sense of spiraling claustrophobia and absurdity. I need to read more Ira Levin.

Rosemary's Baby is not very scary but it was pretty strange and I enjoyed it. Rosemary and her husband were really wanting to get into the Bramford apartment complex and right when they had signed a lease on another apartment it becomes available and Rosemary begs her husband Guy to get them out of ...

I think I remember some comments about how the movie was a campy style of horror. It left me completely unprepared for this read. This is horror alright. I'm unsettled while writing this, actually. I think it's that most of it is more or less plausible. You take away the supernatural bits, and it wou...

This novel has entered pop culture so seamlessly it was strange to read the source material. As some reviewers have acknowledged, there isn't a whole lot to the book, Levin didn't feel the need to elaborate on the hows and whys of Stepford's transformation. That is probably one of the chillier aspec...

I cheated. I was a horrible bookworm and saw the movie years before reading the book. In my defense, it wasn’t totally my fault. I took this awful film class in college, and the only good memory I have from it is watching the 1975 Stepford Wives movie. I absolutely loved the movie and can’t believe ...
