This is one of the more rambling and random of the Grimm tales. It all begins when a king captures a wild hairy man (aka Iron Hans) who has been terrorizing the forest. Iron Hans is crafty, however, and convinces the young prince to release. Fearing he will be severely punished the prince follows...
I've read other versions of the Iron Hans/John story but tend to forget them as they don't resonate for me. Heyer's presentation is pretty, especially the decorate borders.
