Ivan Doig is the author of ten previous books. Seven are novels, including English Creek and Dancing at the Rascal Fair, and three are nonfiction, including the highly acclaimed memoir This House of Sky, which was a finalist for the National Book Award. A former ranch hand, newspaperman, and magazine editor, Doig holds a Ph.D. in history from the University of Washington. He lives in Seattle.

The premise of the Last Bus to Wisdom by Ivan Doig is far-fetched. Yet, Donal's adventures have me smiling throughout. The story has a sweet charm. I listened to the audiobook format, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with the narration by Scott Sowers, in fact he drew me into the story at first. I found English Creek captures the essential both in physical descriptions of the land, the dialog between people and what is essentially important in life. Some compare him to [a:Wallace Stegner, but I think he is MUCH better. There is marvelous humor in Doig's writing.
