I was born and reared in central Indiana, the daughter of Mennonite farmers. The Hochstetler family is well known for the massacre and Indian captivity of several of my ancestors during the French and Indian War, which is the subject of my newest release, Northkill, written with Bob Hostetler. You will find a brief summary of their story on my Web site and Northkill blog. Amish Mennonites, they came to this country in 1738 seeking religious freedom. In 1757 their home was attacked by a band of Indians. The mother and two children were killed, while the father, Jacob, and two of his sons were carried off into captivity. Jacob managed to escape after seven months, and some months after after the war ended in 1763, the two sons were returned as a condition of the peace treaty. Their story is truly inspiring.A graduate of Indiana University, I am also a professional editor and a historian. I was an editor with Abingdon Press for many years and am currently the publisher and editorial director of Sheaf House Publishers. I am a member of American Christian Fiction Writers and Middle Tennessee Christian Writers. I live with my husband in Elkhart, Indiana.
