J. R. Angelella is the author of the controversial adult-cum-YA literary novel Zombie (via Soho Press). He is also a contributing author to the murder-mystery anthology Who Done It? (Soho Teen), benefiting the nonprofit organization 826NYC.His short fiction has appeared in numerous journals, including The Literary Review, Hunger Mountain, Fifth Wednesday Journal, Houston Literary Review, Sou'wester, JMWW, The Collagist, Plots with Guns, Seltzer and The Nervous Breakdown.His short story "Sauce" won The Coachella Review's 2012 Short Story Contest judged by Stephen Graham Jones and his story "Cadaver" was anthologized in Seltzer's print edition called FIRST COLLECTION.His journalism and essays have published in Fiction Writers Review, The Quivering Pen, Ithaca Times, Words for Teens and Largehearted Boy.He holds a BA in English and Creative Writing from Ithaca College and an MFA in Creative Writing and Literature from the Bennington Writing Seminars at Bennington College. He teaches creative writing at the Gotham Writers' Workshop in New York City.His most recent obsessions include: collecting comic books & graphic novels, hoarding fitted Baltimore Orioles baseball hats, refusing to wear anything other than Chuck Taylor Converse Low-Top canvas shoes [holes in the soles be damned!], and studying, listening, analyzing, researching, educating and living all things hip-hop.Conversely, his favorite band is the Drive-By Truckers and he doesn't understand why they aren't your favorite band too.He was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, and now lives in Brooklyn with his wife, the writer Kate Angelella and their three cats: Pacey [aka Grandpa], Tortie Bell [aka Black Pearl] and DeNiro [aka DeNiro].
