A native of Wyoming, and sixth of a brood of seven sons, Jackson Lassiter's unique world view was molded by the vagaries of Mother Nature and Human Nature. After living in Utah, Colorado, North Carolina, California, and Washington State, Lassiter settled in the District of Columbia, which he has called home for nearly ten years. He pays the rent by shuffling papers at a major University - in fact, he began writing to combat the numbing boredom of his office job, and quickly realized it was his calling. Lassiter is the 2009 recipient of the Larry Neal Writing Award sponsored by the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, the PEN/Faulkner Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts. He has won awards with Shenandoah Review, Binnacle, Gay City, and elsewhere. His works of poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction have appeared in Gertrude, Apocalypse Literary Arts Magazine, Sin Fronteras, South Loop Review, Cutbank Review, Harrington Gay Men's Literary Quarterly, Gay City, Best Gay Love Stories, Prime Mincer, Shenandoah Review, and elsewhere.Lassiter lives with his partner, an antique Shih Tzu, and a devilish cat. He refuses to drive and/or commute, and enjoys gardening, baking, and movies.
