Jacqueline Jules is a former school librarian and author of two dozen books for children, including the Zapato Power series, Unite or Die: How Thirteen States Became a Nation, No English, Duck for Turkey Day, Sarah Laughs, and Never Say a Mean Word Again. She is also a poet and the author of two poetry chapbooks, Field Trip to the Museum and Stronger than Cleopatra. Freddie Ramos is the hero of the Zapato Power early chapter book series. Short chapters, comic-book-like illustrations, a little magic (the shoes) and funny one-liners make this a fun choice. There are a few Spanish words that either have the English also included, or make sense in context.
