James D. McCallister has worked as a media archivist, newspaper columnist, free-lance journalist, and small business owner. Besides numerous academic and magazine publications, fiction efforts are highlighted by two novels, King's Highway (Red Letter Press, 2007) and Fellow Traveler (Muddy Ford Press, 2012). A third, Dogs of Parsons Hollow, is under representation and being shopped to Big Six publishers, while a fourth, Mansion of High Ghosts, is under consideration for publication by the University of South Carolina's Story River Press. McCallister recently completed the first draft of his eighth novel, DIXIANA, and hopes to one day see publication of all manuscripts set in his southern literary world of 'Edgewater County, SC,' including a short story collection. A two-time South Carolina Writer's Workshop and SC Fiction Project awardee as well as a Faulkner-Wisdom and Saturday Evening Post short story finalist, McCallister adjuncts in creative writing at Midlands Technical College and has appeared as both featured author and moderator at the SC Book Festival.
