My mother always said if I kept reading all those comic books and science fiction novels, they'd warp my brain. She was right! Now I'm an adult who can't stop daydreaming. While other grown ups sit around and think, about, I dunno, mortgages or something, I'm likely to be internally debating who'd win in a fight between Superman and Smaug, or thinking about the possibility that the rabbit holes in Wonderland might let one travel to Oz. My work is known for fast paced action and humor, with each story built around a large moral question. I live in Hillsborough, NC with my wife Cheryl. I'm a graduate of Orson Scott Card's Writing Boot Camp and the Odyssey Writing Workshop. In 2015, I was awarded the title of Piedmont Laureate. My works to date are:NEW IN 2014! BAD WIZARD! *I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. 4.5 starsA cool addition in listening to the audiobook for me, we get small sound effects! There's a noise that matches the waterfall, lightly in the background to give us the feel of the story with the...

Dorothy returns to Oz is a sort of steampunk revolution.A good read, but the story felt rushed in some places. The overall idea was good, though, and well worth the time spent on it (not the money; it was free!)

Okay first off I am going to say we all know I love fantasy. I adore it and I adore short stories. It is what got me started as a writer. But! And there is a but. You see one of the things that drives me nuts is a story where the author is taking themselves too seriously. They are not writing a st...

I just can't pass up a superhero novel. Few rise above mediocre, but they're like space operas, I am always looking for the one that shines above the rest.Nobody Gets the Girl is better than average. The worldbuilding and the plotting was excellent. James Maxey creates an internally consistent world...

Greatshadow, the first book of The Dragon Apocalypse by James Maxey, reminds me in so may ways of the TSR quest-driven novels I cut my fantasy teeth on so many years ago. More specifically, it reminds of Forgotten Realms adventures by the likes of R.A. Salvatore, Ed Greenwood, Troy Denning, and Doug...
