James Shelley grew up in Michigan, where he engaged in a 24-year police career in the Lansing area, with four years spent overseas as an International Police Officer, investigator, and field trainer in Kosovo. He engaged in one security mission in Afghanistan and was a force protection officer for three years, with assignments in Germany, Thailand, and Kuwait. For the past four years, he has been in Beijing, China, living, teaching, consulting, and writing.
