I was born in 1960 in the North East of England and I've lived there all my life. I went to a local University and graduated in nursing in 1982. I went to work with older people, people with stories to tell.I went to work as a lecturer, teaching nurses, and stayed for about 22 years. Just before I left I was diagnosed with MS. Leaving work has given me more time to write, something that was inspired by moving into the street here my grandmother was a maid.Most of my work has been inspired by place, and the things I imagine have happened there. Place shapes events and stores. It is where we are.
