Jill Gocher is an Australian photographer who also writes and edits when called upon. She has spent more than half of her life in foreign countries travelling, and working with any number of publications and tourist organisations. She has held successful photo exhibitions in Bali and Kathmandu. PLease watch out for my newly published book, "Secret Bali". Its not on Amazon yet but we are working at it. The other is an exciting book about Balinese architecture. Stay tuned."Most of my books are about travel and culture, or adventure and culture because travel is an adventure and the cultures and beliefs of different countries are endlessly fascinating. One big adventure of a different kind was photographing Asia 's Legendary Hotels, which is soon to be rereleased in soft cover, at a specially affordable price. For this book we visited most of the oldest and most famous hotels in Asia, most of which have been refurbished into fabulous luxury properties. The book showcases Raffles Hotel in Singapore, the Oriental in Bangkok, the Peninsula in Hong Kong, and some of Indias relics of the British Raj, like Mumbai's fabulous Taj Hotel and New Delhi's glorious Imperial Hotel. Vietnam also has many beautiful hotels which are legacies of the French colonists. Burma is not forgotten with its famous Strand Hotel in Yangon. All these hotels have a sense of history, and a sense of mystery and if you cant visit them personally, you can at least visit them and enjoy their appeal in the book. Please enjoy!Over the years I have seen so many places succumb to tourism, and some like Bali, become irrevocably changed for ever. We can only hope that tourism brings benefits to the inhabitants as well as the changing landscapes. Travel, however remains one of the most exciting and illuminating experiences, we can do. I like to bring the taste and feel of a country to my pictures, to share the wonders and the special places and things that make each place unique."
