Jim Spencer has been in the writing trade since selling his first magazine article (at age 14) to Fur-Fish-Game magazine. Five decades later, he is still active in the business and has written more than 2,000 magazine articles, 2,000 newspaper columns, hundreds of e-articles for various outdoor websites, and five books: The Mink Manual (1990), Turkey Hunting Digest (2003), A Young Hunter's Guide to Waterfowling and Conservation (2004), Guide to Trapping (2007), and Bad Birds (2011). He is currently a Field Editor for Turkey & Turkey Hunting magazine and Executive Editor of Trapper & Predator Caller magazine. He has won scores of excellence-in-craft awards for his writing and photography from the Outdoor Writers Association of America, Southeastern Outdoor Press Association, and the Association for Conservation Information. Spencer is a trained forester and wildlife manager and is recognized as a leading authority on trapping, turkey hunting and waterfowl hunting. He was a career employee of the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission, and is now retired. He and his wife Jill Easton, also an accomplished professional outdoor writer, now live in the Ozark Mountains of north Arkansas, with deer, bears and turkeys as their closest neighbors.
