Jim Workman was born during the Great Depression of the 1930s. He served in the U.S. Army Artillery during the Korean Conflect and as a meteorologist during two tours in Vietnam. He was the middle child of nine children of an improverished family, who some might folks referred to as migrant workers. He well remembers the hard times, and the unforgiving existence of those Dust Bowl days. The author was willingly obligated to help provide for the welfare of the family, foregoing a classroom education. Before entering the service he worked at several summer and fall jobs, from the paper mills of Northern Louisiana to the cotton fields of the Pecos River Valley of New Mexico. While working as a farm laborer and ranch hand along the Red River Valley of North Texas and Southwest Oklahoma, he had the distinctive privilege of a first hand education of the western frontier and the men who help build this great land. He attempts to re-tell and relate bits of historial knowledge he had experienced, and common-sense wisdom as told to him by ranchers, cowboys, labors, and just common, everyday folks of those unforgetable years.
