Dr. Joan Bouza Koster lives on a farm in the hills of upstate New York and is an instructor at Broome Community College in Binghamton, New York. She has taught for 41 years and holds degrees in art education from Adelphi University, elementary education from Temple University, and a doctorate in education from Binghamton University. Her award-winning dissertation focused on ways to address racism through children's literature. With her husband, she has conducted anthropological fieldwork focusing on shepherding in Greece and Italy. She has published numerous articles in the fields of education, anthropology, and fiber art. She regularly conducts workshops on the arts, media literacy, and addressing social justice issues and, with Tim Wolcott, is a webmaster for TeachPeaceNow.org, a website devoted to anti-bias education.
