Joan was born in Saddleworth in the West Riding of Yorkshire, UK. She moved to the East Midlands in 1998 to take up a post at the University of Nottingham, where she worked as a lecturer/educational consultant until 2011. She has twenty years teaching experience, both in secondary and tertiary education. In addition, she has run courses on dream analysis since 1995 and has been dream journaling for over twenty five years.
