Joan Juliet Buck , born in Hollywood , was raised in Paris, London, and Ireland. Her first paying job, at 11, was as a waif carrying a Skye Terrier in the 1960 Disney film 'Greyfriars Bobby'. She began writing book reviews for Glamour at 19, and was Features Editor of British Vogue at 23. After two decades doing profiles, essays and criticism for American Vogue, Vanity Fair, Conde Nast Traveler and The New Yorker while she wrote the novels 'The Only Place To Be' (Random House, 1982 and 'Daughter Of The Swan' (Weidenfeld, 1987), she became editor-in-chief of Paris Vogue from 1994 to 2001. Since then, she has resumed acting ('Julie & Julia', 2009, 'Supergirl', 2015) and performed with The Moth ('The Ghost of the Rue Jacob') while writing her memoir of high life and sharp falls, 'The Price of Illusion'.
