About Dr. LovettJoan Lovett, MD,FAAP has been practicing behavioral pediatrics for over twenty years. She especially enjoys helping children and teens who have medical issues, attachment issues, PTSD, post-traumatic symptoms, anxiety and behavioral problems. She uses a variety of methods including EMDR, play, art, cognitive behavioral therapy, relaxation exercises, activities that strengthen attachment and narrative. She also enjoys working with adults on parenting issues, resolving childhood trauma and improving performance.Dr. Lovett grew up in Winchester, Virginia. She is a graduate of Wellesley College and the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine. Dr. Lovett trained in pediatrics at Montreal Children's Hospital/McGill University and was a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar at Stanford University School of Medicine, where she specialized in adolescent medicine and behavioral pediatrics. Following her fellowship at Stanford, she taught pediatrics to nurse practitioners at UCSF, practiced primary care pediatrics, and did additional training in child psychotherapy at West Coast Children's Center. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, an EMDR International Association Approved Consultant, and has served as a Chair of the EMDR Medical Committee.Dr. Lovett enjoys teaching and speaking about her work. A recognized expert in her field, she has presented many trainings and workshops in the US, Canada, Europe, and Asia. She was invited to speak at the opening of the Child Trauma Center at Great Ormond Street Hospital, The Menninger Clinic, the Attach Conference, and several EMDR International Association meetings, most recently in Kobe, Japan, and Washington, D.C.When she isn't working, Dr. Lovett loves spending time with her family and friends, traveling, hiking, writing, cooking, reading and making things.
