Joanna Kenrick grew up in Oxfordshire, where she became a bit posh. Then she went to university in London, where she got the posh bits rubbed off. After five years in the theatre business as an actor, musician and composer, she decided she wanted a change so she became an English teacher.Along the way, she started a correspondence writing course and discovered a burning desire to be published. Her first picture book, MOONDANCE, was published by Andersen Press in 2004, and she thought she'd cracked it - clearly, picture books were the way forward! Unfortunately her next twenty stories were turned down, so she turned to writing for teenagers instead and found she was much better at that.Joanna has published two full-length teenage novels with Faber, and a series of books for teens with reading difficulties with Barrington Stoke (and one with Evans). She has a website at www.joannakenrick.com where you can find out more about her and her strange obsession with cheese.

My first guess on this book...

The lack, or apparent lack, of a life-changing tragedy to cause the character's behaviour is another strength and realistic detail I empathised with. An excellent British YA 'issue' novel. A warning thou...
