Born, raised, and educated in Tennessee, John Bowers has lived in New York since 1962. His first story was published at the age of 14 in a magazine called Matrix. He has since published eight books of fiction and non-fiction and has written articles and essays for The New York Time, Harper's, Playboy, Sports Illustrated, and The Village Voice. He received a CAP's award for fiction in 1979 and has taught at Columbia and Stonybrook. Currently he teaches in the Writing Program at Wilkes University.
