Dr. John Flowers is a graduate of psychology and Woodrow Wilson Fellow from the University of Southern California, and his doctoral dissertation was on increasing self confidence in non-confident children. He is presently both a university professor at Chapman University and in private practice. As a university professor he teaches graduate students in diagnosis of disorders of childhood, and in therapeutic solutions for problems of parents and children. He also publishes research on the causes of problems of both parents and children/adolescents and the effectiveness of psychoeducational and therapy techniques for the resolution of such problems. He publishes scientific reports of his work in respected journals such as Behavior Therapy, Community Mental Health, Journal of Educational Research, Psychotherapy: Theory, Research and Practice, The Counseling Psychologist, Contremporary Psychology etc. Dr. Flowers is also the author of self-help books for parents such as: "Help Your Children Be Self-Confident, published by Prentice Hall. In his private practice Dr. Flowers specializes in parent and child counseling including children and adolescents with who are anxious, angry, depressed, withdrawn, underachieving, and abusing substances. He has one teenager and one slightly post teenager, and despite the myth that therapists have therapist's raise troubled children, they are great kids and taught him how to parent well.
