I'd like to suggest that reading choice, at all ages, resembles a vortex. One's favourite books and authors swirl round, and are re-read (I've always been a great re-reader). New books are sucked in to join the vortex, and some of the favourites gradually sink down, just occasionally bobbing back up...

Dostoevsky's characters and thoughts are very fascinating. one of the greatest books ever written, I'am Sure. in short, the story is about The idiot, a very kin...

I would have loved to give War and Peace a 5 star rating. I was so close, too. But then we reached the 100-page epilogue and it was all downhill from there. And can an honest man survive in society - to be precise, Russian society in the 19th century. Prince Myshkin, the titular "idiot," returns to Rus...

My favourite Dostoyevsky, but then I did read it first when I was about 16 and basically confused enough to fall in love with Prince Myshkin..

I had a strange reading experience with this book. I was greatly enjoying it, but it was not coming together as a unified whole for me. I had a similar experience with the Brothers Karamazov and then suddenly about 2/3 of the way through, the book just gelled and I instantly knew that it was going...

This book had its moments, but on general, it pains me to say that it was mediocre. Now when I'm thinking about it, some great quotes are coming to my mind, but that's all, and hence the three stars. I am a strong admirer of Dostoyevsky. His The Brothers Karamazov and Crime and Punishment took my b...
